John the Baptist
What does it look like to be called by God when you feel completely unqualified? In this message, we dive into the life of John the Baptist, one of Scripture's most unconventional figures, to discover that being different is not a curse but a divine design. Drawing from Matthew 3 and Luke 1, we explore how God handpicked an ordinary man dressed in camel hair, eating locusts and wild honey, and placed on him the spirit and power of Elijah, a boldness and urgency that turned hearts and prepared an entire generation to receive Jesus. The angel's declaration in Luke 1 that John would be great in the eyes of the Lord, not the eyes of the world, reframes everything we think success and significance look like. We are challenged to stop measuring our worth by outward appearances and religious performance and to ask the harder question: what does the inside actually look like? John's discipleship message of generosity, integrity, and contentment cuts straight to the heart, because these are qualities that cannot be faked and cannot be manufactured without the power of the Holy Spirit. This message calls us to recognize that we carry that same spirit of Elijah, the same urgency, the same boldness, and the same calling to clear the road and point everyone around us toward Jesus.
